STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council at BAHATI BOYS SENIOR SCHOOL plays a vital role in promoting student leadership, responsibility, discipline and participation in the day-to-day running of the school. The council provides an important link between the student body, teachers and the school administration, ensuring that students’ views, concerns and ideas are communicated appropriately.
The Student Council is headed by the Student Council President, who is assisted by the Deputy President and other student leaders, including the Hall Captain, Games Captain, Class Representatives and other appointed leaders. Each leader is entrusted with specific responsibilities and is expected to demonstrate commitment, integrity, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
The student leaders are carefully selected through a participatory process involving the students and are subsequently approved by members of staff. The selection process seeks to identify students who demonstrate impeccable discipline, good moral standing, responsibility, confidence, integrity and the ability to work well with others. Once elected or appointed, the leaders serve as role models to their fellow students and contribute significantly to maintaining a positive and orderly school environment.
The Student Council assists the administration in the smooth running of daily school activities. They help communicate important information to students, encourage adherence to school rules and regulations, promote cleanliness and order, support co-curricular activities and help foster unity among students. Through their leadership roles, they also learn valuable skills such as accountability, decision-making, communication and problem-solving.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND EMPOWERMENT
To prepare the student leaders for their responsibilities, the Student Council normally reports to school two days before the official opening day for a comprehensive leadership training and empowerment programme. This provides the leaders with an opportunity to understand their roles, responsibilities and expectations before the rest of the student body reports.
The training focuses on key areas of effective leadership, including:

- Public speaking and effective communication
- Interpersonal relations and student welfare
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Team-building activities

The team-building sessions help student leaders develop trust, cooperation and mutual understanding. Through practical activities and guided discussions, they learn how to work together as a team, appreciate different perspectives and handle challenges constructively.
The training also equips leaders with skills in conflict resolution and management, enabling them to respond to disagreements among students calmly and responsibly. They are encouraged to seek appropriate guidance from teachers and the administration whenever an issue requires intervention beyond their mandate.
DEVELOPING RESPONSIBLE LEADERS
At BAHATI BOYS SENIOR SCHOOL, student leadership is viewed as an important part of holistic education. The Student Council provides learners with an opportunity to practise leadership in real-life situations while developing confidence, responsibility, integrity and respect for others.
Through their service to the school community, student leaders are encouraged to understand that leadership is not simply about authority or position, but about service, responsibility, humility and setting a positive example.
The Student Council therefore remains an important pillar in creating a disciplined, united and student-centred school community. Through effective collaboration between student leaders, teachers and the administration, the council continues to contribute to the growth and development of responsible young men who are prepared to make a positive contribution to society.
