SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
The Science Department is one of the largest and most vibrant departments at BAHATI BOYS SENIOR SCHOOL. It comprises two Chemistry teachers, three Biology teachers, and one Physics teacher. The department is committed to nurturing scientific knowledge, practical skills, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving abilities among learners.
A significant number of our students take the three science subjects—Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—at the KCSE level. The department continues to contribute significantly to the school’s academic success through effective teaching, practical learning, continuous assessment, and learner-centred approaches.
The department is committed to providing quality curriculum delivery through innovative and creative teaching approaches that equip learners with the knowledge, skills, values, and competencies required to excel academically and prepare for future careers in science, technology, and related fields.
KJSEA PROJECTS AND PRACTICAL LEARNING
The department actively supports learners in KJSEA project-based learning, providing opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Learners are guided to identify problems, develop practical solutions, carry out investigations, collect and analyse information, and present their findings.
Through KJSEA projects, students develop important competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and digital literacy. The Science Department encourages learners to undertake projects that promote innovation, environmental awareness, health, agriculture, technology, and sustainable development.
Teachers provide continuous guidance and supervision throughout the project process, ensuring that learners take ownership of their work while developing practical skills and confidence. The department also encourages teamwork and sharing of ideas, enabling learners to learn from one another and appreciate the practical application of science in everyday life.
We conduct regular assessments and evaluations, alongside group discussions, classroom discussions, practical sessions, and project-based activities. These approaches provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and practical skills.
The department is supported by a team of hardworking, dedicated, and committed teachers whose concerted efforts have contributed to the steady improvement of students’ performance in the sciences over the years.
BAHATI BOYS SENIOR SCHOOL has two well-equipped science laboratories supported by trained and competent personnel. A practical approach to learning is encouraged in all science subjects whenever possible. This enables learners to connect theoretical knowledge with real-life applications and has contributed greatly to improved understanding and performance in the sciences.
